In the Original Series
Into the Wild
Dustpelt is a brown tabby tom with amber eyes who used to be a follower of Tigerclaw (mainly because of Darkstripe's intervention), and he, along with Sandstorm, had jeered at Firepaw, but they warmed up to him.
Fire and Ice
He earns his warrior name along with Sandstorm after being recommended by Fireheart.
Forest of Secrets
His mentor, Redtail, former deputy of ThunderClan, had been killed by Tigerclaw, and later, Dustpelt officially renounces Tigerclaw after finding out that Tigerclaw had been his mentor's murderer.
Rising Storm
He discovered his love for Ferncloud and even stepped in a gossiping session about Firestar's abilities, because Fernpaw had been shocked and frightened at Darkstripe's words.

He took over Sorrelpaw's mentoring when Sandstorm went with Firestar to rebuild SkyClan.
In the New Prophecy Series
Midnight
He went on a patrol to make sure WindClan was not crossing the thin boundary between ThunderClan and RiverClan while using their drinking rights. He found Onewhisker, Mudclaw, and Crowpaw stealing a RiverClan vole they chased over the border. Dustpelt also mentored Firestar's daughter, Squirrelflight. In The New Prophecy, Dustpelt and Ferncloud have kits, Spiderkit, Shrewpaw, Hollykit, Larchkit, and Birchkit, although only Spiderleg and Birchfall make it to the new territory.

Sunset
He is objective and not without voice, but in Sunset, he backed down from going against Firestar's choice of deputy (Brambleclaw) when he discovered it had been of the will of StarClan. Also, when Stormfur and Brook returned to ThunderClan for the second time, he and Mousefur call a Clan meeting because they believe that the Clan is becoming too 'mixed'.
In the Power of Three Series
The Sight
In The Sight, Dustpelt tracks the fox cubs with Brambleclaw and Hazelpaw. He later objects to Firestar's kind nature of allowing non-ThunderClan cats in twice. The second time the Clan all disagreed.
