"I have a confession too. I've been here a long time. When I was alive, I tried to kill my leader so that my kit could take his place. I thought he'd been deputy for long enough. All I succeeded in doing was getting us both killed. My time here has been darker than I could even imagine. But that's my fault. I chose to help Mapleshade and then Ashfur. I've made nothing but bad decisions. But now, I've seen what it is to be a true warrior and risk everything for others. If I can make up for what I've done by helping you defeat Ashfur, then I will."
— Silverhawk about his past deeds and wanting to stop Ashfur in A Light in the Mist, page 204-205

Silverhawk is a ragged, pale gray tabby tom.[1]

Silverhawk is a member of the Dark Forest. When he was alive, he was mates with Emberdawn and the pair had a son who, upon growing up, became deputy of their Clan. Silverhawk wanted to help his son usurp the position of their leader, but both were killed in the process, with Silverhawk descending into the Dark Forest. Seasons later, he trained Thistleclaw to help him become deputy of ThunderClan and later worked with Ashfur. However, Silverhawk changed sides when he found out that Ashfur's presence in the Dark Forest was causing it to vanish and helped the Lights in the Mist in the battle against him. After Ashfur's defeat, Silverhawk remained in the Dark Forest.

History[]

In The Broken Code arc[]

The Place of No Stars[]

Silverhawk: "Ashfur hasn't even told us what it's all about. What does a StarClan cat want, here in the Dark Forest?"
Mapleshade: "Nothing good. Personally, I don't care what he wants, and I doubt he's going to get it, but if he does what he's promised us, that's good enough for me."
Silverhawk: "But will he? Can he?"
Mapleshade: "Well, he's the only cat to die and make it back to the Clans in a living body. Imagine that! Imagine the power we could have...the revenge we could take. It's worth putting up with him for now, if he can do the same for us. I could take over the body of a nice young she-cat—that would do me just fine. Imagine getting to taste real fresh-kill again! Imagine raking your claws across some cat's pelt, and drawing real blood!"
—Silverhawk and Mapleshade complaining about Ashfur The Place of No Stars (book), page 153
While talking to the spirit of Willowshine in the Dark Forest, Rootspring and the former medicine cat spot Silverhawk talking with Mapleshade. Silverhawk grumbles that he doesn't like how Ashfur just came in and has started giving them orders, to which Mapleshade agrees. Willowshine and Rootspring decide to tail the two Dark Forest cats. Silverhawk asks Mapleshade what Ashfur, a former StarClan cat, wants in the Dark Forest. Mapleshade responds that nothing good, and personally she doesn't care what he wants and doubts he'll achieve it, but if he can get what he has promised them, it will be worth it. She points out that Ashfur is the only cat to die and make it back in a living body. She goes on, telling Silverhawk that they could only imagine the power and revenge they could have. Silverhawk concedes that she has a point, before bidding farewell to the tortoiseshell and he'll see her back at the island.

A Light in the Mist[]

"I don't deserve a place in StarClan. I never will. But I owe them, and the living Clans, something."
―Silverhawk to Maggottail about redeeming himself A Light in the Mist (book)
Ashfur orders Silverhawk and Clawface to guard the Moonpool entrance and Silverhawk's objections are silenced by Ashfur's commanding rebuttal. While Darkstripe, Rushtooth, Silverhawk, and Mapleshade guard Rootspring in his prison, Rootspring, now possessed with Firestar's spirit, calls Darkstripe over to taunt him. After Firestar kills Darkstripe's spirit, Mapleshade and Rushtooth flee, though Silverhawk stays behind and agrees to help Firestar and Rootspring get rid of Ashfur. Silverhawk vows on his former mate Emberdawn's spirit that he'll help them. Silverhawk and Rootspring meet up with Bristlefrost and the Dark Forest cats Maggottail and Sparrowfeather. Silverhawk is unsure if any other Dark Forest spirits will be willing to betray Ashfur.
After cats from StarClan arrive to help the coming fight against Ashfur and his army, some of them question Juniperclaw's request to help since he previously poisoned SkyClan's fresh-kill pile. Juniperclaw points out they're willing to trust Silverhawk, Maggottail, and Sparrowfeather. Rootspring believes they can trust the Dark Forest cats since they are also fighting for their home that is being actively destroyed by Ashfur's schemes. Silverhawk confesses how he killed his leader so his son could take his place but it ended up getting them both killed. Realizing his own fault, Silverhawk vows to make things right and help defeat Ashfur even if he doesn't redeem himself worthy of StarClan. While Redtail, Feathertail, and Silverstream mock him, Rootspring believes Silverhawk is being sincere. In the battle against Ashfur, Silverhawk battles Houndleap. After Ashfur's death, Firestar thanks the Dark Forest cats for their help.

Crookedstar's Promise[]

When Mapleshade leads Crookedjaw into the Dark Forest, Silverhawk brutally trains Thistleclaw, instructing him on how to perform the killing bite. Silverhawk asks if Crookedjaw was the cat with Mapleshade, and is told to get on with his training session. When Silverhawk attacks Thistleclaw, his apprentice dodges the blow. Crookedjaw is shocked at how vicious they are when training. Thistleclaw taunts Silverhawk, saying that he wouldn't get him that easily. Silverhawk dares him to repeat it, crouching down, and when Thistleclaw does, he attacks him. He sinks his claws into Thistleclaw's shoulders, making Crookedjaw gasp at the sight of Thistleclaw's blood. Thistleclaw tries to escape, but Silverhawk flips him onto his back and lunges at Thistleclaw's neck. Crookedjaw tries to stop them, but Mapleshade blocks his way, and Silverhawk lets go of Thistleclaw.
As Crookedjaw is horrified at the fact Thistleclaw is being taught to kill, Silverhawk pads closer and spits that there is no glory in surrender and victory was everything. He pushes past Thistleclaw and snarls at Crookedjaw when he asks if he is in StarClan. He tells him, to Crookedjaw's shock, that he was in the Place of No Stars, not StarClan, saying it was where a cat went if they were rejected by StarClan. When Thistleclaw hisses that Crookedjaw was deputy already, and asks Silverhawk if he would do the same for him, he clouts his apprentice, which sends him staggering back. He thrusts his muzzle near Thistleclaw's face and spits that he still had much to learn, and his time would come when he said so.

Thistleclaw: "Did you think you'd get me that easily?"
Silverhawk: "Say that again."
Thistleclaw: "Did you think—"
Narrator: "Before Thistleclaw could finish, Silverhawk leaped on him and dug his claws into Thistleclaw's shoulders. Crookedjaw gasped when he saw blood welling up in the spiky gray and white fur. Thistleclaw yowled, scrabbling at the ground, trying to get a grip, but Silverhawk heaved him on to his back and kicked his churning hind paws away. Crookedjaw's breath stopped as Silverhawk lunged for Thistleclaw's neck. Opening his jaws wide, he gripped his apprentice's neck in his teeth."
